Public agencies are those that
receive some funding from tax monies, United Way contributions or other
contributions. Most public agencies
will handle a variety of problems but refer persons they are unequipped to
handle to a more appropriate provider.
Payment for services in public agencies is most often based on a financial interview that determines the individual’s ability to pay for services. Some private providers listed in this Directory also use this type of “sliding scale”

Shenandoah Valley, near the intersection of I-81 and I-64.
The

children and adolescents admitted to the Center by providing psychiatric
diagnostic, evaluation, and treatment services of the highest quality attainable
at a reasonable cost to the Commonwealth and in coordination with the family,

services provided in conjunction with area community services boards and their
respective community mental health centers.
All admissions to Commonwealth Center for Children and Adolescents
emergency and non-emergency, are prescreened through the community mental health
center in the area of the child’s residence. Diagnoses of those admitted to Commonwealth Center for
Children and Adolescents are varied, reflecting both the diversity of
populations served and the comprehensiveness of the Center’s programs. These
include
the major categories of conduct disorders, attention deficit disorders, and
adjustment disorders. The Center
also accepts persons with special symptom disorders, such anorexia nervosa,
Tourette’s Syndrome, psychosomatic disorders and oppositional disorders. The
