Anorexia
Nervosa: is a life-threatening eating disorder,
characterized by self-starvation, an aversion to food and a distorted body image. It can
be a single episode of extreme weight loss or a prolonged case
The body is starved, causing blood pressure to fall, breathing to slow, bones to become brittle, menstruation ceases, and sometimes chemical imbalance that can lead to heart failure. The loss of body fat may make sitting or lying down uncomfortable. Without treatment, the condition can be fatal.
Psychotherapy, nutrition counseling, behavior modification, and self-help groups. Often hospitalization is required. Antidepressants are sometimes prescribed. |

Bulimia
Nervosa: is a life-threatening disorder. It
involves bingeing, or eating large amounts of food, and then purging that food from the
body by inducing vomiting or using laxatives. Bulimia is usually a variant of anorexia
nervosa.
Symptoms:
Treatment: Psychotherapy, nutrition counseling, behavior modification, and self-help groups. Often hospitalization is required. Antidepressants are sometimes prescribed. |
